Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of several government officials from their offices during an unscheduled visit to the state secretariat in Dutse.
The governor carried out the surprise inspection amid growing concerns over absenteeism, lateness and declining productivity among some public servants.
During the visit, Namadi moved through various ministries, departments and agencies, checking attendance registers and inspecting offices, many of which were found locked during official working hours.
Addressing workers, the governor stressed that public service is about delivering results for the people and warned that negligence and absenteeism would no longer be tolerated.
He also criticised the absence of some commissioners and senior officials, insisting that leadership must set a positive example for junior staff.
Namadi said punctuality, discipline and accountability were essential for effective service delivery and achieving the objectives of his administration.
The governor directed heads of ministries, departments and agencies to ensure staff report to work on time and perform their duties diligently.
He further warned that appropriate sanctions would be imposed on officers found wanting, while assuring hardworking employees of continued government support and recognition.
The surprise inspection forms part of ongoing efforts by the state government to improve productivity and strengthen accountability within the civil service.
