Motorists travelling along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have continued to face severe delays following a trailer accident that caused a major traffic gridlock on the busy highway.
The congestion, which began after the accident on Tuesday, reportedly stretched as far as the Sagamu Interchange, leaving thousands of commuters stranded for hours.
According to eyewitness accounts, the trailer involved in the accident had not been removed from the roadway as of Tuesday morning, forcing motorists to share a single available lane through the affected section.
The situation worsened as more vehicles joined the queue, creating a lengthy traffic backlog and significantly disrupting movement along one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway serves as a major gateway connecting Lagos with several states across the South-West, North-Central and Northern regions of the country, making any disruption on the route particularly impactful on economic and commercial activities.
Road users reported spending several hours in traffic while commercial transport operators struggled to maintain schedules due to the congestion.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were deployed to manage the situation and direct traffic.
