The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has shut down six iron and steel manufacturing companies in the Odogunyan Industrial Layout of Ikorodu over alleged environmental violations.
The enforcement exercise was carried out by LASEPA’s enforcement team following directives from the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
According to the agency, inspections revealed multiple breaches of environmental regulations, including the emission of harmful particulate matter capable of affecting air quality and public health.
The affected companies are Germini Steel Nigeria Limited, Top Steel Nigeria Limited, Pulkit Alloy Nigeria Limited, Landcraft Steel Nigeria Limited, Sunflag Steel Nigeria Limited and African Steel Nigeria Limited.
LASEPA said the companies were sealed as part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to protect residents from industrial pollution and enforce compliance with environmental standards.
Speaking during the operation, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr Babatunde Ajayi, urged industries operating in the state to prioritise environmental responsibility and comply fully with regulatory requirements.
He warned that the agency would continue to take action against companies whose operations threaten public health and the environment.
The agency noted that the state remains committed to improving air quality, reducing pollution and promoting sustainable industrial development.
