The Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day broadcast, arguing that the address failed to provide clear solutions to the economic and security challenges confronting Nigerians.
In a statement issued by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, the organisation said the President’s speech lacked specific and measurable policy commitments that citizens could use to assess government performance.
The criticism followed Tinubu’s nationwide address marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, during which he defended his administration’s reforms and said the country had moved beyond difficult economic adjustments toward a period of shared prosperity.
The President highlighted economic growth, declining inflation, improved foreign exchange stability, stronger foreign reserves and rising non-oil exports as indicators of progress under his administration.
However, the campaign organisation disagreed with that assessment, insisting that many Nigerians were still grappling with severe economic hardship.
“It is indeed disappointing that the President’s address failed to present specific, measurable and binding economy and security policy commitments for which Nigerians can hold him accountable,” the statement said.
The group also criticised the administration’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira, arguing that both measures had contributed to rising living costs and reduced purchasing power.
According to the organisation, the policies have placed additional pressure on households and businesses, with some companies reportedly scaling down operations or exiting the country.
On security, the campaign said the President’s speech did not adequately address the concerns of communities affected by kidnapping, killings and other forms of violent crime.
It argued that victims of insecurity deserved stronger assurances and clearer strategies for addressing ongoing threats across different parts of the country.
The organisation subsequently urged Nigerians to support the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, describing him as a leader capable of delivering reforms and national renewal.
