Milei Slams UN as ‘Useless Organisation’ Over Falklands Dispute

Argentine President Javier Milei has launched a fierce attack on the United Nations, describing the organisation as “useless” and accusing it of failing to uphold collective security and human rights.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Milei said the organisation had instead allowed “chaos, violence and international terrorism” to flourish.

The Argentine leader described the UN as an organisation that “has become a useless organization, serving only to feed a caste of fatally arrogant parasites disguised as well-intentioned bureaucrats.”

Milei also criticised the UN over Argentina’s longstanding claim to the Falkland Islands, known in Argentina as Las Malvinas and administered by Britain.

He accused the organisation of “looking the other way” over the dispute and said those who violate international rules often face no consequences.

“Those who follow the rules receive no reward for doing so, while those who break them face no repercussions whatsoever,” Milei said.

Argentina has long maintained that Britain has acted contrary to a UN resolution calling on both sides to refrain from unilateral action in the disputed islands. The two countries fought a war over the territory in 1982.

Milei’s remarks formed part of a broader criticism of global governance and what he described as the UN’s failure to fulfil its original responsibilities.

The speech also highlighted Argentina’s close relationship with the United States under President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, Argentina and the US announced a joint initiative known as the Andes-Atlantic Corridor, aimed at improving infrastructure and connecting key economic sectors in Argentina with major Atlantic ports and Western markets.

According to a joint statement, the initiative is expected to facilitate investment in transport, digital infrastructure, minerals and energy, including the Vaca Muerta hydrocarbon deposit in southern Argentina.

The infrastructure initiative was announced on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, underscoring the close economic relationship between Buenos Aires and Washington as Milei continues to promote stronger ties with the United States.
