The Nigerian military says it has recorded a 213 per cent increase in the number of terrorist fighters and associates surrendering to troops in the North-East within one week.
The development was disclosed by the Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-East, Captain Mohammed Goni, who attributed the increase to sustained operations under Operation HADIN KAI.
According to him, troops intensified efforts aimed at disrupting terrorist logistics, supply routes and operational bases across the region.
Goni said the rise in surrenders reflects growing pressure on terrorist groups and a weakening of their operational capabilities.
He revealed that two high-profile terrorist members recently surrendered with weapons, ammunition and other military equipment.
The military spokesman noted that continued offensives and targeted operations have reduced the ability of terrorist elements to regroup, recruit and sustain prolonged attacks.
He added that the increasing number of surrenders demonstrates the effectiveness of the military’s strategy, which combines ground offensives, precision engagements and disruption of terrorist support networks.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability across the North-East while maintaining channels for individuals willing to surrender and renounce violence.
The military also appealed to members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies in support of ongoing operations.
