For six agonising weeks, the family of a retired Police Superintendent, Ahmed Shehu Emmanuel, has lived in uncertainty and fear following his mysterious disappearance after leaving home for what appeared to be a routine business meeting in Ogun State.
The retired officer, who resides in Abeokuta, reportedly left his residence on July 23, 2026, after receiving a call from a cattle herder identified as Muhammed Saleh regarding the sale of two cows. According to family members, Emmanuel had entered into a cattle-rearing arrangement with Saleh and was expecting proceeds from the livestock transaction.
His son, Emmanuel Samson, explained that Saleh allegedly invited his father to meet him at Rounda Roundabout along Ayetoro Road before proceeding to Alamut Market to conclude the sale. Before leaving, the retired officer reportedly informed his wife of his destination and rode off on his motorcycle.
That decision would become the last known trace of him.
Family members said eyewitnesses later confirmed seeing Emmanuel in the company of Saleh. Police officers stationed at a checkpoint near Rounda Roundabout also reportedly recalled seeing the pair together. Since then, neither the retired officer nor the cattle herder has been seen.
The disappearance has sparked growing concern among relatives and residents, particularly as efforts to trace both men have yielded no results. Emmanuel’s motorcycle, which could have provided a crucial lead, has also not been recovered.
Determined to find answers, the family has reported the case to multiple security agencies, including the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta. Telecommunications information and other materials considered useful to investigators have also been handed over.
Despite these efforts, the case remains unresolved.
Another family member, Emmanuel Nehemiah, has appealed directly to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, the DSS and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts to locate the missing retired officer.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing, assuring the family that efforts to unravel the mystery surrounding Emmanuel’s disappearance have not been abandoned.
As the search continues, relatives say they remain hopeful that answers will emerge and that the retired officer will be found.
