NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Unregistered Menopause Supplement

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert over the sale and distribution of an unregistered menopause supplement known as Menofix Capsules, warning consumers against its use due to potential health risks.

According to the agency, the product, marketed by PureEve as a hormone-free herbal and multivitamin supplement for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause, has not been registered by NAFDAC despite being widely sold through retail outlets and online platforms.

NAFDAC said the alert followed complaints regarding the product and reports of possible liver-related adverse effects associated with some of its ingredients.

Following investigations, the agency confirmed that Menofix Capsules is not authorised for sale, distribution or use in Nigeria.

The regulator clarified that the unregistered product should not be confused with Menofix Herbal Capsule and Menofix Powder, both of which are duly registered and approved by the agency.

NAFDAC disclosed that it has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and remove the product from circulation wherever it is found.

The agency also urged distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals and consumers to avoid stocking, selling or using the product.

It advised individuals currently in possession of Menofix Capsules to discontinue use immediately and submit any remaining stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Consumers who may have experienced adverse reactions after using the supplement were encouraged to seek medical attention and report such incidents through the agency’s pharmacovigilance channels.

NAFDAC stated that the move forms part of its ongoing efforts to eliminate unregistered products from the market and protect public health from potentially harmful substances.
