The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has taken delivery of 6,778.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, intercepted at the Lagos seaport.
The NDLEA made this disclosure on Thursday in a statement detailing the latest breakthrough in its war against drug trafficking. The consignment was concealed in a container declared as personal effects and was destined for the local market.
Several suspects have been arrested in connection with the importation while investigations continue to trace the sponsors. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd) commended the officers involved and warned traffickers that the agency would not relent in its efforts.
This latest seizure underscores the increasing attempts by international drug syndicates to flood Nigeria with hard drugs. The interception of such a large quantity of Canadian Loud highlights the sophistication of drug traffickers and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in securing the nation’s borders.
The NDLEA has been intensifying its operations at ports and border points to curb the influx of illicit substances. The agency’s efforts have led to several major seizures in recent months, demonstrating its commitment to combating drug trafficking. The latest haul is expected to disrupt the supply chain and reduce the availability of hard drugs in the local market.
The NDLEA has called on the public to support its efforts by providing timely information on suspicious activities. The agency has also been working with international partners to track and dismantle transnational drug networks. The interception of the Canadian Loud consignment is a significant victory in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria.
