Nigeria Courts Saudi Investors as Economic Reforms Gain Momentum

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to strengthen economic relations with Saudi Arabia, highlighting ongoing reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment, boosting trade and expanding tourism opportunities.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this during the Nigeria-Saudi Diaspora Investment and Tourism Exhibition Summit 2026 held in Abuja.

Idris said the administration of President Bola Tinubu was implementing far-reaching economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda to create a more competitive and investor-friendly environment.

According to him, the government is focused on promoting enterprise, innovation and private sector growth while creating conditions that encourage both domestic and foreign investment.

The minister described the summit as an important platform for deepening bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia through strategic partnerships capable of generating employment, stimulating economic growth and expanding commercial activities.

He noted that reforms being pursued by the Federal Government cut across infrastructure development, agriculture, digital innovation, education financing, security and economic diversification, all of which are intended to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading investment destination.

Idris stressed the importance of projecting an accurate and positive image of Nigeria internationally, arguing that investor confidence depends heavily on transparency, consistency and trust.

He urged investors from Saudi Arabia to explore opportunities across key sectors of the Nigerian economy, assuring them that reforms already underway were creating a more conducive business environment.

The minister also acknowledged the contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora, describing them as important drivers of economic development through their expertise, networks and entrepreneurial activities.

Also speaking at the summit, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, called for stronger diaspora-led investments between both countries.

She encouraged investors to explore opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, logistics and real estate, noting that diaspora communities contribute more than remittances by providing global experience, market access and business connections.

Participants at the summit included government officials, investors, development partners and members of the Nigerian diaspora, all seeking ways to deepen economic cooperation and unlock new investment opportunities between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
