Nigeria Will Soon Become Africa’s Safest Country – Obidike

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Obidike, has expressed confidence that Nigeria is on track to becoming the safest country in Africa, citing recent successes recorded by security agencies in the fight against crime and insurgency.

Obidike made the assertion on Sunday while speaking with journalists in Abuja. He said ongoing security operations across various parts of the country have resulted in the rescue of kidnapped victims, the neutralisation of notorious bandits and insurgents, and the disruption of criminal networks.

According to him, the improvements are evidence that government efforts to address insecurity are beginning to yield positive results. He attributed the progress to the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and the commitment of security chiefs working to restore peace and stability nationwide.

The PDP spokesman noted that security agencies have intensified intelligence gathering, surveillance and coordinated operations aimed at tackling banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and other violent crimes.

He urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in preventing criminal activities and apprehending offenders. He also called on political actors to avoid turning security issues into partisan matters, stressing that national security should remain a collective responsibility.

Obidike acknowledged that challenges remain in some parts of the country but maintained that the overall trajectory points towards improvement.

His comments come amid mixed reactions from Nigerians, many of whom continue to express concerns over incidents of kidnapping, communal clashes and bandit attacks in several states.

Security analysts have similarly urged authorities to sustain ongoing operations and invest further in intelligence, technology and personnel welfare to consolidate gains recorded so far.

The Federal Government has repeatedly assured citizens that security remains a top priority and that efforts to protect lives and property will continue.
