Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has expressed confidence that he will secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that his return ticket is “firmly inside my pocket.”
The lawmaker attributed his optimism to what he described as his performance in office, citing legislative interventions, constituency projects and empowerment initiatives implemented across the senatorial district since his election to the National Assembly.
Speaking on political developments within the ruling party, Salisu said his achievements in the Senate and continued engagement with constituents had earned him widespread support among party members and residents of Ogun Central.
According to him, his legislative agenda has focused on addressing unemployment, promoting digital transformation and improving socio-economic opportunities for young people. He highlighted the National Internship and Unemployment Benefit Scheme Bill, which has passed second reading in the Senate, as one of his key legislative initiatives.
He also referenced the National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, which has passed first reading, saying it is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and improve public service delivery through technology.
Beyond legislation, the senator pointed to several constituency projects and interventions across education, healthcare, infrastructure and empowerment. He disclosed that his office sponsors more than 1,000 candidates annually for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and provides educational materials to students across the district.
Salisu further noted that his office facilitated the establishment of a 250-capacity Information and Communication Technology Centre at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), alongside other ICT facilities aimed at improving digital literacy among students and youths.
In the area of healthcare, he said medical outreach programmes conducted in partnership with health organisations have provided services to residents, while vulnerable groups have benefited from various Federal Government intervention programmes.
The senator also highlighted infrastructure projects including road rehabilitation, installation of transformers, construction of solar-powered boreholes and deployment of solar streetlights in several communities.
Reflecting on his political journey, Salisu stated that he has remained committed to progressive politics since contesting under the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2007.
“I was born and raised in Abeokuta. People know my humble beginnings. My father was a transporter known for his integrity, and I have remained consistent in progressive politics from the ACN days to the APC. My commitment has always been to serve the people,” he said.
He also endorsed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) for the APC governorship ticket and commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as developmental strides across Ogun State.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Salisu urged APC members and residents of Ogun Central to remain united and avoid divisive politics.
The senator maintained that his focus remains on delivering quality representation and pursuing initiatives capable of improving the socio-economic well-being of constituents across the district.
