Ondo Police Warn Against Planned Cult Activities, Vow Crackdown on Offenders

The Ondo State Police Command has warned cult groups and other criminal elements against any planned gathering, initiation, procession or celebration linked to the proposed annual “7/7” cult activities, vowing to take decisive action against offenders.

The command said intelligence reports indicate that some cult groups may be planning activities to commemorate the annual event, raising concerns over possible threats to public peace and security across the state.

In a statement issued in Akure, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said security personnel have been deployed to identified flashpoints and other strategic locations to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

According to him, operatives attached to the command’s special squads have been directed to intensify visibility policing, surveillance operations, confidence-building patrols and intelligence-driven raids across the state.

Jimoh stressed that the command would not tolerate unlawful gatherings, violent processions, public display of cult insignia, brandishing of weapons or any activity capable of creating fear and panic among residents.

“The Command wishes to unequivocally state that it will not tolerate any unlawful gathering, display of cult insignia, brandishing of weapons, violent procession or any act capable of causing fear or panic among law-abiding residents,” he said.

He warned that any individual or group found engaging in such activities would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. He also cautioned against aiding, harbouring or supporting criminal elements, noting that offenders would face legal consequences.

The police spokesperson appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, gatherings or activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.

He assured residents that the command remains fully prepared to respond swiftly to any attempt by criminal elements to disrupt the prevailing peace and security in the state.

The warning comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb cult-related violence and other criminal activities. Authorities say proactive policing and public cooperation remain critical to maintaining peace and safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State.
