A routine patrol in Lagos’s Igando area led to an arrest of suspected armed robber, after police officers on patrol spotted a motorcycle carrying three men whose behavior raised immediate red flags, prompting a chase that ended with one suspect in custody and a weapons cache recovered.
According to a statement issued Wednesday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi, the encounter began when a Lagos State Police patrol team noticed the motorcycle’s three occupants acting suspiciously. The moment the men spotted the officers, they attempted to flee, but only two managed to escape, abandoning the motorcycle in the process. The third, identified as 29-year-old Olajunja Segun Samson, was apprehended at the scene.
What officers found afterward gave weight to their initial suspicion. A search of both Samson and the abandoned motorcycle turned up a locally fabricated pistol along with a collection of charms, items police believe were tied to the suspects’ criminal activity. “The suspect is currently in Police custody while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices. Investigation into the case is ongoing,” the statement noted, with police continuing to pursue the two men who got away.
Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai praised the officers involved for their alertness during what began as a standard patrol, framing the arrest as part of the broader effort to keep violent crime in check across the state. He reaffirmed that tackling armed robbery and similar offenses remains a top priority for the command, stating, “The Lagos State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring the safety of all residents.”
Beyond the arrest itself, Fatai used the moment to appeal directly to the public, encouraging residents to play an active role in crime prevention by sharing timely and credible information with security agencies. The command reiterated that its emergency lines remain open for residents to report suspicious activity, framing quick public reporting as a key tool in enabling faster police response across Lagos.
