Police Rescue Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons, Neutralise Two Suspected Kidnappers

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons following their abduction in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The victims were rescued during a coordinated security operation carried out on Saturday evening, three days after they were kidnapped. The operation resulted in a gun battle between police operatives and members of the kidnapping syndicate, leading to the death of two suspected kidnappers. Security personnel also recovered two firearms during the encounter.

The victims were reportedly abducted on June 3 while travelling to school. Armed men intercepted their vehicle in what witnesses described as a coordinated attack, causing panic among residents in the area. The incident attracted widespread attention, particularly because of the family’s relationship with the former minister.

According to Sahara Reporters, a red Toyota Camry allegedly used during the incident was abandoned at the scene with its doors left open. The report stated that security agencies immediately launched investigations and intensified efforts to locate the victims and apprehend those responsible.

The family of Chief Adelabu confirmed the abduction through a statement issued by his media aide, Femi Awogboro, who described the development as unfortunate and appealed for support while rescue efforts were underway.

Police sources disclosed that sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance operations and the tracking of the kidnappers’ movements eventually led operatives to the location where the victims were being held. Mounting pressure from security personnel reportedly forced the suspects into a confrontation that culminated in the successful rescue of the victims.

Mrs John-Paul is a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. She recently retired and relocated to Ibadan with her children while preparing to reunite with her husband in the United States.

Security agencies have since launched a manhunt for other members of the gang who escaped during the operation. Authorities believe some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds.

The rescue has brought relief to the family and residents who followed developments surrounding the abduction. It also underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle kidnapping, which remains one of the major security challenges confronting several parts of the country.
