One person has been confirmed dead while two others sustained injuries following a multiple-vehicle crash along the New Road axis of the Coastal Road corridor inward Jakande, Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the accident involved a Mack flat-bed articulated trailer, a Toyota mini truck and two motorcycles.
According to preliminary investigations, the trailer driver was allegedly travelling at excessive speed when he lost control and rammed into the moving mini truck. The force of the collision caused the truck to somersault before crashing into one of the motorcycles.
LASTMA disclosed that one person died at the scene of the accident, while two others suffered varying degrees of injuries. Emergency responders, including LASTMA officials, rescued the victims and transported them to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The authority noted that its officers, who were on routine patrol along the corridor, quickly secured the accident scene, coordinated rescue operations and managed traffic to prevent further disruption.
A recovery truck was later deployed to evacuate the damaged vehicle, while security agencies were alerted to the incident.
Reacting to the development, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sadness over the loss of life and reiterated the need for motorists to observe speed limits and traffic regulations.
He described excessive speeding as one of the leading causes of avoidable road crashes in Lagos and urged drivers, particularly operators of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution while on the road.
Bakare-Oki also called on road users to adopt safe driving habits, stressing that compliance with traffic rules remains critical to reducing accidents and safeguarding lives.
The latest incident adds to concerns over road safety in Lagos, with authorities repeatedly warning motorists against reckless driving and speeding, especially on major highways and newly developed road corridors.
