The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage that will affect parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday as it undertakes preventive maintenance work at the Katampe 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, explaining that the maintenance exercise is scheduled to take place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and is aimed at ensuring the continued efficiency and reliability of critical power infrastructure.
According to her, engineers will carry out preventive maintenance on a 100MVA 132/33kV power transformer, its auxiliary systems and associated switchgear within the substation.
As a result of the exercise, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to receive bulk electricity supply from the facility during the maintenance period, leading to temporary power interruptions in several areas.
Communities expected to be affected include Mpape, Maitama, Jahi, Life Camp, Kado Fish Market, Idu-Karmo and surrounding neighbourhoods.
TCN explained that the maintenance is part of its routine asset management programme designed to improve operational efficiency, reduce the likelihood of equipment failure and enhance power supply reliability across the transmission network.
The company appealed to residents and businesses in the affected areas to make alternative arrangements during the outage period and expressed regret over the inconvenience the exercise may cause.
It stressed that periodic maintenance of transmission facilities remains essential to ensuring the stability of the national grid and sustaining electricity supply to consumers.
The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts by TCN to upgrade and maintain transmission infrastructure across the country to improve power delivery and reduce disruptions in the electricity value chain. Recent maintenance exercises in different parts of Nigeria have been targeted at strengthening transmission capacity and supporting more reliable power distribution.
Power sector stakeholders have consistently emphasized the need for regular maintenance and infrastructure upgrades as part of broader efforts to address challenges affecting electricity supply nationwide.
