Uba Sani: Northern Women Ulama Backed Tinubu on Performance, Not Sentiment

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has said the decision by Northern Women Ulama from the 19 northern states to endorse President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027 was based on the administration’s performance and inclusive governance rather than political sentiment.

Sani made the remarks at a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja, where he highlighted what he described as gains recorded under the Tinubu administration in education, infrastructure, healthcare and agriculture.

According to the governor, the North has benefited significantly from federal initiatives introduced under the current administration, particularly programmes targeting education and human capital development.

He cited investments in technical and vocational education and the activities of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), claiming that the northern region had received more than 60 per cent of the benefits from the scheme.

Sani also pointed to developments in infrastructure, healthcare and agriculture as areas where he said the administration had demonstrated commitment to addressing challenges affecting Nigerians.

The Kaduna governor described Tinubu as a detribalised leader, arguing that his administration had extended opportunities and government interventions across regional and ethnic lines.

He maintained that the endorsement by the Northern Women Ulama should therefore be viewed within the context of the administration’s record rather than as a decision driven by regional or political sentiments.

The engagement brought together several political and government stakeholders, including the governors of Gombe, Yobe and Borno states, as well as federal ministers.

The 2027 presidential election is expected to generate increased political activity across the country as political parties, groups and influential stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of the polls.

Sani’s comments add to the growing political endorsements and declarations surrounding President Tinubu’s bid for another term, with supporters increasingly highlighting the administration’s economic, social and development initiatives.

However, the governor’s assessment represents his position on the administration’s performance and the reasons behind the endorsement by the Northern Women Ulama.
