UK, Nigeria Sign Pact Against Terrorism Financing and Cyber Threats

The United Kingdom and Nigeria have signed a renewed pact to strengthen cooperation against terrorism financing, cyber threats, disinformation and other emerging security challenges.

The agreement was reached on Tuesday in Abuja during the 4th UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Partnership Dialogue. National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and his UK counterpart Jonathan Powell led the discussions. Ribadu described the partnership as a broad strategic framework covering counterterrorism, cybersecurity, regional stability and intelligence sharing. He highlighted the evolving nature of threats, including hybrid warfare and foreign information manipulation.

Powell reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Nigeria through operational assistance, institutional strengthening and capacity building. British personnel are currently supporting Nigerian forces in Maiduguri, with focus on counterterrorism and cyber resilience. The dialogue is expected to deepen bilateral efforts in addressing interconnected threats to national and regional security.

This pact underscores the importance of international collaboration in tackling complex security issues that transcend borders. It is expected to enhance Nigeria’s capacity in key areas while strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.
