Spain defender Pau Cubarsí has emerged as the frontrunner for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Young Player of the Tournament award after a string of impressive performances helped guide La Roja to the final.
The 19-year-old Barcelona centre-back has been one of the standout players in North America, marshalling Spain’s defence with composure and maturity beyond his years. His displays have strengthened his chances of succeeding Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández, who won the award at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The FIFA Young Player Award recognises the best performer aged 21 or under at the tournament. Since its introduction in 2006, previous winners have included Lukas Podolski, Thomas Müller, Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappé and Fernández.
Cubarsí’s consistency has placed him ahead of several highly rated youngsters, including Spain teammate Lamine Yamal and France forward Désiré Doué, as the race enters its decisive stage.

Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign. The 18-year-old Lille star produced composed displays in central midfield as the Atlas Lions reached the quarter-finals, further boosting his reputation across Europe.
