Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has distributed more than 120 truckloads of fertiliser and other agricultural inputs to farmers across the state as part of efforts to boost food production during the 2026 wet farming season.
The programme was launched at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, the state capital.
According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the intervention includes 72,000 bags of fertiliser, 200,000 litres of herbicides and 100 crop residue crushers.
Other items distributed include 100 grass choppers, 100 feed milling machines, improved pasture seeds, 20 motorcycles and 20 mobile phones for agricultural extension workers.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Lawal described agriculture as a critical pillar of Zamfara’s economy and a key driver of development.
“Zamfara State has vast fertile land and hardworking people whose history, culture and economy are rooted in agriculture,” he said.
The governor noted that farming remains a powerful tool for combating poverty, insecurity and unemployment.
According to him, agriculture is not only an economic activity but also a vital part of the state’s identity and heritage.
The distribution programme will cover all 147 political wards across Zamfara’s 14 local government areas.
Each ward will receive 340 bags of fertiliser, while every local government area will receive 8,000 litres of herbicides.
The state government said the intervention forms part of broader efforts to enhance food security and improve the livelihoods of farmers.
