The Nigerian Army has arrested Private Mohammed Yusuf, a soldier previously declared wanted over allegations of supplying military accoutrements to terrorists and other criminal elements.
The Army disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the suspect was apprehended by troops of the 7 Provost Group, Operation HADIN KAI, at Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri, Borno State.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Muhammed Goni, the soldier was arrested while allegedly attempting to flee to neighbouring Cameroon.
Goni said preliminary investigations revealed that Yusuf absconded from his unit on July 7, 2026, before relocating to Maiduguri, where he reportedly hid in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area.
The suspect had earlier been declared wanted by military authorities over his alleged involvement in the illegal supply of military uniforms and other controlled military items to terrorists and criminal groups.
“The suspect was apprehended following credible human intelligence. He had been declared wanted by the Nigerian Army on July 23, 2026, over the same allegations,” Goni stated.
He added that the suspect is currently in military custody while investigations continue to determine the full extent of his activities and identify any accomplices.
The Army said the arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and reinforces its commitment to accountability, professionalism and discipline within the ranks.
Military authorities also reiterated that there would be no safe haven for individuals involved in supporting terrorism or criminal activities, regardless of their status.
The Army urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the North-East and across the country.
