Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, is set to round off his campaign activities with a statewide radio broadcast following the cancellation of the planned Accord Party mega rally in Osogbo.
The Deputy Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council and Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, disclosed this while speaking on the development. According to him, the governor will address residents through a live programme that will be transmitted simultaneously by no fewer than 15 radio stations across the state.
Alimi said the broadcast, scheduled for 8 p.m., would be aired by major stations including the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC), Rave FM, Diamond FM and Fresh FM. He added that key members of the campaign council as well as representatives of the Accord Party would also participate in the programme.
Describing the broadcast as a significant engagement with voters, members of the campaign team said it would provide an opportunity for the governor to discuss his administration’s achievements, future plans and vision for the state ahead of the election.
Explaining why the planned mega rally did not hold, Alimi cited security concerns and disagreements over the use of the proposed venue, the Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo.
He said the campaign team faced challenges after the All Progressives Congress (APC) indicated interest in using the venue on the same day. Efforts by security agencies to resolve the dispute were unsuccessful, while the Nigerian Railway Corporation reportedly claimed ownership interests in the facility.
According to him, the campaign council later considered relocating the event to Fakunle Open Field but eventually abandoned the plan after receiving security reports suggesting that party supporters could be vulnerable to attacks.
Alimi maintained that despite the cancellation of the rally, the campaign had successfully reached communities across the state through previous engagements and grassroots mobilisation efforts.
He expressed confidence in the governor’s chances at the polls, stating that residents across towns and villages had shown strong support for Adeleke’s re-election bid and pledged to vote for him during the election.
