Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued a pointed appeal to Osun State voters ahead of the August 15 governorship election, framing the vote as a direct choice between continued progress under his administration and a return to what he described as a period of engineered hardship under the previous APC government.
In a post on his official X account Thursday, Adeleke called on residents to turn out in large numbers, casting the election as a defense of gains he says the state has made under his leadership. Central to his appeal was a pointed accusation against the APC’s prior tenure in the state, which he said deliberately used economic hardship as a political tool. “Those who once weaponised poverty by paying workers half salaries, leaving civil servants to struggle to feed their families, and denying our people access to basic necessities are desperate to return to inflict more pain,” he wrote. “We must never go back to those dark days.”
Adeleke urged supporters to see the coming election as a chance to send a clear signal about the direction they want the state to take. “On August 15, I urge every eligible voter to send a clear and resounding message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion and good governance,” he said, framing a strong turnout as essential to protecting what he called the people’s mandate. “Together, we will protect the mandate of the people and keep Osun moving forward accordingly.”
The governor’s appeal lands amid an increasingly intense campaign season, with Adeleke seeking a second term in an election that has already been marked by sharp exchanges between his camp and the APC over issues ranging from alleged prisoner releases to police conduct in the lead-up to voting day.
