APM Candidate Promises Better Welfare, Career Growth for Oyo Teachers

The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has pledged to prioritise teachers’ welfare and strengthen educational development if elected governor in the 2027 general election.

Adekanmbi made the promise in a message commemorating the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration, where he paid tribute to educators for their role in shaping future generations and driving national development.

Describing teachers as the foundation of societal progress, the governorship hopeful said no nation can achieve sustainable growth without investing in quality education and the professionals responsible for delivering it.

He commended teachers across Oyo State for their commitment to nurturing young minds and preparing students to become productive members of society.

According to him, the positive performance recorded in the state’s education sector reflects the dedication, professionalism and sacrifices of teachers who continue to work under varying circumstances to maintain standards.

Adekanmbi noted that Oyo State’s recent academic achievements, including improved performance in national examinations, were evidence of the crucial role educators play in advancing educational excellence.

The APM candidate promised to sustain policies that promote teachers’ welfare while introducing additional reforms aimed at improving working conditions and career progression opportunities.

Among the commitments outlined were the continuation of prompt salary payments, maintenance of the popular salary payment structure known as GSM Day, regular promotions and professional development programmes.

He also pledged to sustain existing incentives such as the 27.5 per cent teachers’ allowance, leave bonuses and 13th-month salary benefits.

Adekanmbi further promised to expand leadership opportunities for teachers within the public service, saying educators should continue to be considered for senior administrative positions in government.

He stated that his administration would build on existing achievements in the education sector while introducing fresh initiatives designed to empower teachers and improve learning outcomes.

According to him, investing in teachers remains one of the most effective ways of securing the future of Oyo State.

The governorship aspirant said educators deserve greater recognition and support because of their direct contribution to the development of human capital and the long-term growth of society.
