Barcelona has turned down an initial offer from Paris Saint-Germain worth an estimated €40 million ($46.2 million) for Spanish forward Ferran Torres, according to a source within the Catalan club who spoke to AFP on Monday, though talks between the two clubs remain far from over.
“Negotiations are ongoing” between Barcelona and PSG, the source confirmed, corroborating earlier reporting from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo. According to reports circulating in the Spanish press, Torres has already agreed in principle to join PSG and reunite with Luis Enrique, his former Spain national team coach now in charge at the French club.
The timing of the interest is notable given Torres’ current standing. He scored the winning goal in the 2026 World Cup final, a moment that has significantly raised his profile just as his contract situation at Barcelona grows more uncertain, with his current deal set to expire in June 2027. Speaking during a recent promotional tour in the United States, the 26-year-old was careful not to commit either way when asked about his future. “I have a contract with Barcelona, but in football you never know. I’m just waiting to make the right decision,” he said. Pressed on whether he had a dream destination in mind, Torres acknowledged he did without naming it. “I just want to be happy,” he replied.
Torres arrived at Barcelona in 2021 from Manchester City in a deal worth more than €55 million, and has spent the past two seasons operating primarily as a backup centre-forward behind Robert Lewandowski since Hansi Flick took charge of the club in the summer of 2024.
