The political contest ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election has spilled onto social media, with Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, appearing to join a growing exchange involving his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Davido, a prominent supporter of the Osun governor, posted what appeared to be the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo on his Instagram Story on Friday.
The singer provided no caption or explanation, leaving the reason behind the post open to interpretation. Its timing, however, has attracted attention because of comments recently made by Okpebholo about the Osun governor.
The Edo governor had taken aim at Adeleke while campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Osun, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
During the campaign, Okpebholo questioned Adeleke’s approach to governance, focusing particularly on the governor’s reputation for dancing at public events.
“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo said.
The remarks have since become part of the political conversation surrounding the election, where the incumbent governor is seeking to retain his position against the APC challenge.
Davido has been an active supporter of his uncle throughout the campaign. Beyond appearing at political events, the singer has repeatedly used his public platform to promote Adeleke and has recently called for a peaceful and credible election in Osun.
That political involvement has made his latest social media activity particularly noteworthy.
While Davido did not directly reference Okpebholo or his comments, sharing the governor’s purported WAEC result without any accompanying message has been widely interpreted as a possible response to the Edo governor’s criticism.
The post has therefore introduced a fresh element to an already closely watched election campaign, turning what began as a political jab at Adeleke into another social media talking point involving members of Nigeria’s political and entertainment circles.
