The House of Representatives has summoned National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Defence Minister Gen. Christopher Musa, and Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele to explain rising insecurity and the utilisation of defence expenditures.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Rep. Sulaiman Gumi on Tuesday, which cited recent bandit attacks in Zamfara and other Northwest states that resulted in dozens of deaths and mass abductions. Lawmakers expressed deep frustration over substantial funds released for security without corresponding improvements on the ground. They demanded the immediate deployment of additional personnel and equipment to troubled areas while advocating for both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to address root causes.
Relevant committees have been tasked with ensuring compliance and are expected to report back within two weeks. The summons reflect growing legislative impatience with the persistent security crisis plaguing parts of the country despite increased budgetary allocations.
This move is likely to intensify scrutiny on the government’s security architecture and spending efficiency as public anxiety over safety continues to mount.
