Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of several top government officials during an unscheduled visit to the State Government Secretariat in Dutse.
The governor conducted the inspection following growing complaints about absenteeism, lateness and declining productivity within the state civil service.
During the visit, Namadi moved through various ministries, departments and agencies, checking attendance records and assessing the level of service delivery.
Several offices were found locked, including those occupied by senior government officials, despite the visit taking place during official working hours.
Speaking during the inspection, the governor stressed that public service is a responsibility to the people and warned that negligence and absenteeism would not be tolerated.
“Government work is about service to the people. We cannot afford to tolerate negligence and absenteeism in our offices,” he said.
The governor questioned the absence of some commissioners and permanent secretaries, noting that leadership must set the standard for discipline and commitment in public service.
He directed heads of ministries, departments and agencies to ensure staff report to work promptly and discharge their responsibilities efficiently.
Namadi also warned that sanctions would be imposed on officials who fail to meet expected standards, while assuring hardworking civil servants of continued government support and recognition.
According to sources, the inspection formed part of broader efforts by the administration to improve productivity, restore discipline and strengthen accountability across the state bureaucracy.
The state government is expected to review findings from the inspection and determine appropriate administrative actions where necessary.
