Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has assured new National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of a conducive and secure environment throughout their service year in the state.
Makinde gave the assurance on Monday during the opening of the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course in Iseyin. He was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Alhaja Wasilat Adegoke. The governor urged the 3,938 corps members to integrate fully with host communities, respect local cultures, and use the opportunity for personal growth and nation-building. He emphasised his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and skills development. Makinde encouraged the corps members to approach their service with discipline and dedication, viewing it as a platform for leadership rather than a mere obligation. “Nigeria still holds enormous opportunities for those who are prepared, focused, and determined,” he said.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Kayode Peters, also charged the participants to uphold the ideals of the scheme and contribute meaningfully to national development. The Chief Judge of Oyo State administered the Oath of Allegiance to the new corps members. This assurance comes at a time when security concerns have affected corps postings in some parts of the country, making Oyo’s commitment particularly significant for youth development and national integration.
The governor’s message reinforces Oyo State’s reputation as a youth-friendly environment and could encourage greater participation in the NYSC programme. By prioritising safety and empowerment, the state aims to harness the energy of young graduates for community development and economic growth. The orientation exercise sets the tone for a productive service year, with expectations that corps members will drive impactful projects in education, health, and agriculture across Oyo communities.
