President Bola Tinubu has directed that the deployment of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to states will henceforth be guided by comprehensive risk assessment.
The President made the declaration on Thursday while receiving the NYSC management at the State House. Tinubu emphasised that the safety and welfare of corps members remain paramount and that no young Nigerian should be exposed to unnecessary danger during service.
He assured that the government is working to address security concerns in high-risk areas while maintaining the core objectives of the NYSC scheme. The NYSC Director-General, Brig. Gen. Yushau Dogara, thanked the President for his commitment to the scheme and pledged to implement the new directive effectively.
This policy shift is expected to reduce incidents of corps members falling victim to insecurity in parts of the country. The President’s directive reflects the government’s commitment to the welfare of young Nigerians serving in the NYSC. The new approach is expected to improve the safety of corps members and enhance the effectiveness of the scheme.
The NYSC has been a key platform for national integration and youth development. The introduction of risk assessment in deployment is seen as a pragmatic step to address security challenges while preserving the scheme’s objectives. Stakeholders have welcomed the policy as a positive development that prioritises the safety of corps members.
