Security Operatives Prevent Protesters From Accessing National Assembly

Heavy security deployment around the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Thursday prevented protesters from reaching the legislative premises as authorities tightened security across the Three Arms Zone.

The security presence, comprising personnel from the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), restricted movement around key routes leading to the National Assembly, Presidential Villa and Supreme Court.

The development caused significant traffic congestion, forcing many commuters and workers to trek long distances to their destinations.

According to reports, the deployment followed planned demonstrations by the Take-It-Back Movement led by activist Omoyele Sowore over worsening insecurity and the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

As of the time of the report, protesters were unable to access the National Assembly complex due to the extensive security cordon.
