The Taraba State Government has pledged land, infrastructure and other forms of support to facilitate the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s newly approved 10 Division headquarters in Jalingo.
The assurance was given during a visit by a delegation from Army Headquarters led by Major General I.O. Bassey as part of preparations for the operationalisation of the new military formation.
Representing Governor Agbu Kefas, the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps, welcomed the decision to locate the division in Taraba and described it as a major boost to the state’s security architecture.
He said the government was fully committed to supporting the military and ensuring the smooth take-off of the division.
According to Kataps, the state possesses adequate land resources and is prepared to allocate sites for brigades and battalions in strategic locations including Karim Lamido, Bali, Wukari and Gembu.
He noted that strengthening security remains a top priority of the administration and expressed confidence that the presence of the division would contribute significantly to peace and stability in the state.
The planned military formation is expected to improve coordination of security operations and deepen collaboration between the Nigerian Army and other security agencies operating within the region.
Observers believe the development could also boost socio-economic activities by enhancing security for businesses, agriculture, transportation and investment.
Officials of the state government, including the Head of Service, Dr Hamidu Ahmed Kara, joined in receiving the military delegation.
Attention is now expected to shift to the implementation phase as authorities work towards the establishment of the division’s headquarters and supporting facilities.
