Troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), working alongside the Yobe State Hunters Group, have apprehended five suspected kidnappers and recovered weapons during an intelligence-led operation in Jegalari Village, Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement, noting that troops of the 233 Battalion, stationed at the Damaturu Military Cantonment, carried out the operation following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected criminal elements in the area.
According to Goni, the raid resulted in the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally made pistol, assorted ammunition and four mobile phones believed to have been used in carrying out criminal activities.
He said the suspects and recovered items are currently in military custody as investigations continue to determine their level of involvement in kidnapping and other related crimes.
“The suspects are currently in custody alongside the recovered exhibits and are undergoing further investigation to determine their involvement in kidnapping and other criminal activities,” he stated.
Goni reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Hadin Kai to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements freedom of action across the North-East region.
He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and support security efforts by reporting suspicious persons, movements and activities to relevant authorities.
According to him, timely and credible information from residents remains critical to ongoing efforts to protect communities and enhance security across the region.
The military said it would continue to work with local stakeholders and security partners to strengthen operations against criminal networks and maintain peace in affected communities.
