A security guard identified simply as Stanley has been killed in a suspected cult-related attack
at Royale Estate in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred late Friday night, has renewed concerns over the increasing
threat of cult violence and attacks on security personnel within residential communities
across the state.
Residents said the assailants stormed the estate between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., opening fire
indiscriminately before fleeing the scene. Witnesses alleged that the attackers specifically
targeted the security officer, shooting him multiple times.
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said the victim sustained several gunshot
wounds, including injuries to the head.
“They just stormed the estate and started shooting. Stanley, the security man on duty, was
shot several times before the attackers fired into the air and escaped,” the source said.
The incident was also widely discussed on social media, where users shared videos and
reports alleging that the attackers were members of a cult group.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command,
Abimbola Adebisi, said preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was attacked by
two unidentified men riding on a motorcycle.
“The incident occurred. He was shot by two unknown individuals on a motorcycle. The
command has launched an investigation into the incident. No suspect has been arrested yet,”
she stated.
The killing adds to a growing list of cult-related attacks recorded in Lagos in recent weeks.
Earlier, another security guard identified as Godwin was reportedly killed in the Abule Ijesha
area of Yaba by suspected cultists who allegedly attacked him near his duty post and injured
three other persons.
Security analysts have expressed concern over the recurrence of such incidents, warning that
violent clashes between rival cult groups continue to pose significant threats to public safety
in parts of the state.
Residents have also called on law enforcement agencies to intensify surveillance and
strengthen security around residential estates to prevent further attacks.
Police authorities said investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend those
responsible for the latest killing.
