Iran Claims Attacks on U.S. Bases after Fresh American Strikes

Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated once again, with Iran claiming responsibility for missile and drone attacks on U.S. military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait following a new wave of American strikes.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the operation targeted U.S. military facilities, including the Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. The group also claimed it shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone during the attacks, although the claim had not been independently verified.

Authorities in Bahrain and Kuwait activated air defence systems after reports of incoming missiles and drones. The Kuwaiti military confirmed that its defence systems were engaged in intercepting hostile projectiles, while Bahrain also reported defensive measures in response to the threat.

The attacks came hours after the United States launched fresh strikes against Iranian targets and revoked a licence that had allowed Tehran to sell oil internationally. Washington said the action was in response to attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.

The U.S. Central Command said more than 60 boats belonging to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards were among the targets struck during the American operation. According to the command, the action was aimed at protecting freedom of navigation and responding to what it described as continued aggression in the region.

The latest exchange has further strained a fragile ceasefire that had been intended to create room for indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Diplomatic efforts have stalled, with both sides accusing each other of violating previous understandings.

The renewed hostilities have raised concerns over regional security and global energy supplies, particularly as the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical route for international oil shipments. Oil prices rose as markets reacted to the heightened geopolitical tensions.
