The Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Isa Kalanjeni, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and stepped down from his position as council chairman. The development was conveyed in two separate letters made available to journalists in Sokoto.
In a letter addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward, the council boss announced his resignation from the ruling party with immediate effect. He described the decision as a personal one and expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve as a member.
In a separate letter dated July 7, 2026, and addressed to the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kalanjeni also resigned as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area.
According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, political associates and community stakeholders. He cited administrative challenges which, he said, had made it difficult for him to continue carrying out the responsibilities of the office to the standard expected of him.
Kalanjeni expressed gratitude to the electorate, the legislative arm of the council and members of staff for the opportunity to serve. He also wished the incoming leadership success in managing the affairs of the local government.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Sokoto State Government nor the APC had issued an official reaction to the resignations. The development has, however, generated discussions about possible political realignments in the state ahead of future elections.
